Low Voltage Lighting

Low voltage lighting encompasses a range of products including the downlight fitting , halogen lamps and low voltage lighting transformer together these can transform a room from dull conventional lighting to a bright and uplifting environment . Low voltage lighting accessories such as the individual components such as the MR11 and MR16 halogen lamp sockets and connectors are available for those wishing to build their own lighting systems and under shelf cabinet lights offer a simple quick installation to illuminate cabinets etc . These downlights are supplied with halogen lamps and all that is required is the low voltage lighting transformer . The low voltage lighting transformers are available from 60 Watts to 200 Watts and are simple to install , the maximum secondary load of these must not exceed the maximum rating of the transformer eg you can have 10 x 20 Watt Halogen lamps on a 200 Watt transformer or 4 x 50 Watt . or any combination not exceeding 200 Watts .

For LED lamps in the MR11 led lamp and MR16 led lamp range a tridonic transformer is recommended . this tridonic part 86453116 is a 12 volt transformer specifically designed for low voltage lighting LED lamps which do not always operate from conventional low voltage lighting transformers .Low voltage downlight fittings are available as flush , wallwash and eyeball for MR16 50mm halogen lamps only upto a maximum of 50 watts , although you can use LED lamps in these too . Low voltage lighting using LED’s lamps currently would be recommended for background lighting and not as main lighting as the LED lamps offer a reduced light output in comparison to the halogen lamps equivalent. Low voltage lighting is ideal for use in the bathroom or shower where IP65 downlights are used . With low voltage lighting being typically only 12 Volts it is safe for the wet room areas of the house . low voltage transformers can be fitted along with the downlight or in an area where they can be replaced if the go faulty .
